host your own
Many people have asked us how we got started and we are happy to share. It’s really very easy. We have written some simple steps to help you get going but feel free to make it your own and do what feels right.
We would love to hear your ideas and you’re welcome to email us with questions.
We are happy to help!
getting started…
step one
Organize a small group of friends with same values of giving back to your community. It helps if you have different groups of friends and colleagues.

step two
Research local causes in your community (newspapers, word of mouth, internet)
- Suggested Guidelines:
- Preferably a grass root organization
- Donated money used for a specific cause
- The event should be educational and entertaining to the guests, and beneficial to the organization’s cause
Communicate your idea with the organization and discuss if they will have a representative come to your home to speak to your guests. We typically meet with someone from the organization before hand.
Arrange ahead of time how you will be using your contributions so you can explain the specific need you will be addressing to your guests.

step three
Decide what kind of party you want to throw and an affordable amount for suggested donation. A Step Up suggests $35.00.
A Step Up hosts gatherings for 50-80 women at the home of one of our founders. Local businesses provide all food and beverages for the party. We typically have desserts, fruit and cheese platters and lots of wine for our guests. You will be surprised that almost everything can be donated to keep your expenses down!

step four
Send out or email invitations with a letter explaining to your guests the purpose of your party.
We designed our own invitations and sent them via email to save on costs for postage. We also include information about the local cause they will be learning about and donating to.
have fun!
step five
Have fun at your gathering!
When your guests are happily eating, drinking and chatting, introduce yourselves and speaker.
A Step Up asks guests to write their checks, sign in and write down their addresses and emails. This way, when the party is over, you will have a record of all contributors, and a mailing list for future events. Don’t forget name tags for guests and hosts. You will be meeting many new women.
Most importantly, give back to your community and have fun doing it!
